Illustration Friday - Escape

This week I wanted to do something a little different. I thought about what kinds of things you would need to escape from, and how I could make that work as a painting. What better subject than a high profile thief stealing some item of great value, stashing it in his bag and finding his escape by crashing through a window into the night air (with the safety of a climbing rope of course). I did this with ink and again did all of the color in Photoshop. Please let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Upon request, here is the original black and white version for your viewing pleasure.

WOW. You can work miracles with Photoshop! Excellent composition and lighting/contrasts, and the pose of your thief as he leaps out is lovely.

It's a very dramatic and cool interpretation too.

Great technique, and great feeling too.
I love the contrast and the force on the pose's character.
A lot of work in this picture!
Very nice work!

Well done, man! Great lighting and composition.

Cool style. You've got a comic book feel to your work. Great site design, by the way.

I think this is soooo cool! I like the perspective, the silhouetted figure, the light pouring out of the windows...everything. I don't suppose you could share the ink drawing? That was a fun treat last week.

I love your direct, unpretentious style. ANd there's nothing more clearly an illustration of "escape" than this one!

I've noticed your work this summer and was very impressed. The processes you use to get 'there' are the ways illustation SHOULD be -- a perfect blend of hand-drawn imagery influenced by color via digital apps. The concepts are as strong as your technique. Very difficult to find that marriage, but you have it together. Strong stuff, very strong. Hat's off!
